I know!! I loved this so much! I saw this clip for the first time at work, one person had watched it live and wanted the rest of us in the office to see it. Some of my co-workers were saying that "they"(the people with Britain's Got Talent) should be able to fix Susan Boyle up- wax her eye brows and change her hair. I was so frustrated!! I asked them why, why does she need to change a thing?! She can sing beautifully that's what matters not what she looks like.
After hearing the whole song one of my co-workers said, "okay fine, she can keep her eyebrows"
What makes people so cynical and so self centered that they think only those who look like a barbie doll will really be able to sing?!!

Speaking of beauty, I was watching a dvd for Women at Risk Int'nl this weekend that showed pictures of girls from brothels in countries such as Thailand and India. One thing that caught my attention was how so many of these dark skinned girls had their faces painted white (fair is a commodity in the sex trade), and it looked completely ridiculous. But I realized, that is no different than girls here in the states who do everything possible to make themselves look dark. What is it within us as women that makes us twist ourselves into something fake and distorted in order to reach some societal bench mark for beauty? It is so sad! No we aren't in horrible conditions like those girls trafficked into the sex trade, but we are still trapped. The sad thing is we, here in the U.S., choose to be trapped.
